Mported Flows : Three Pronged Fork [BSOG0029]

“Over the past couple years, C-Doc has brought with him an incredible group of releases that he’s been involved with. Mported Flows’ new album is no exception. Originally set for release back in 2007, for whatever reason it never officially saw the light of day. It’s a shame, too, because it deserves an audience.

It’s truly a pleasure for me to finally be the one who brings you Three Pronged Fork. Unlike what mainstream rap fans have come to expect, Mported Flows is an MC with plenty to say. Whether it’s about the state of Hip-Hop in ‘Gangstas, Guns, Liquor’ and ‘Mic Drones’, providing advice in ‘Advice’, speaking about the love for his son in ‘Sonny Morning’ or getting deeply introspective on ‘Last Track’, there’s no question about whether his lyrics spring from his soul or not. Add to that the solid production throughout and you’ve got a must hear album.

Hip-Hop never went away… I know that… but still… Hip-Hop IS back. Bump this.

Thanks to Mported, C-Doc and everyone else involved in the making of this album. Incredible work.

Of course, thanks again to you for downloading and listening. I hope we continue to deliver the music you love. Please spread the word about blocSonic, if you enjoy what we do. Remember… everything we release is cool to share! Always keep the music moving… share it… blog it… podcast it! If you’re in radio… support independent music and broadcast it! We don’t stop.”

Jeffrey Wentworth Stevens : Los Angeles Mescal Buttons [WR044]

“The setting is Los Angeles, the scene is a dusty abandoned street, sometime during a sweltering hot summer in the mid-1980’s. Morriconez, appearing in this title using the clever FBI-dodging moniker Jeffrey Wentworth Stevens, exits a baby blue Dodge Charger wearing a silver-studded brown leather jacket, bell bottom Levis and some blood-spattered cowboy boots. He stamps out a cigarette and removes his pilot shades. Five o’clock shadow defines a chiseled scar-covered jaw. Wasting no time, he pops the trunk and removes a black guitar case with a single letter, M, emblazoned in the center. A vague hum appears behind him, followed by a visible cloud of dust. Along the wavering horizon line, a black helicopter emerges and steadily draws closer to our debonair hero. He unfastens the three clasps on the guitar case, gently and seductively opening it to reveal not a guitar, but a rocket launcher. The camera zooms in fast on the helicopter pilot’s face, ripe with silent terror as he faces the Morriconez surprise assault. Our man pulls the trigger, instantly reducing the minigun-fronted copter to an epic explosion of metal and burning human remains. Throwing the spent launcher to the dirt, he reaches inside his jacket, pulls out a smoke, lights it, and puts his shades back on. Before he can get back into the car, the passenger door opens and a buxom girl wearing a tight red dress appears. ‘Honey, you said you were just stopping to say hello to an old friend?’ she asks. Morriconez saltily replies ‘No, I had to say goodbye. Get back in the car.’ With that, she rolls her mascara-covered eyes and our hero speeds off into the lopsided Los Angeles sunset, leaving a trail of tire tracks and droning guitars in his wake.”

Alexander Dahlmann : Pendulum Waves [adpt012]

“A little more than one hour of music between narcotic tracks and dubwise sounds. This is the new adeptlabel release, number twelve.

The set begins with ‘FC Patch’. Alex says the track is named after the fact it was made with ‘one of my first Chord Patches on the modular system called Elektor Formant’. We think this song is made for walking . The heavy beat inside of the patch will keep your pace.

A little interlude called ‘In a State of Dreaming’ is the next one, followed by ‘Float’, a truly masterpiece. ‘It features Michi, a friend of mine playing the shruti box… While I was recording the main reggae style loop I already had the idea to make use of the Shruti for that song, so I introduced him to the instrument letting Michi be part of the session. Then we recorded it and he did a first take solo with the electric Shruti modulating the oscillators. I played the main chords with the mechanic Shurti’ says Dahlmann. ‘Float’ showcases Alex talents for creating a fascinating sonic texture. He makes it work wonderfully without anything more than a little instrument and a little melody.A tense amalgam between reverberation and echoes features ‘Time & Space’. It is a classic reggae rhythm with a heavy bass on top of all the ambient layers. An equal direction takes the next tune, ‘Log Fire’, establishing mercurial rhythms alongside a two-hit bass tone. The track is confusingly simple, maybe we can could define it as ‘loopy’ but there’s a lot happening under the surface. A lot of crackles, noises and weird things going on and on.

A great mixture of a mercurial rhythm, arctic ambients and liquid stabs is what you’ll find in ‘Scratch Surface’ which is the last regular track. The album alternates dubby songs with ambient pieces. The structure takes the listener to a quiet world. This nature of the album works to its advantage. At the end, there’s a remix of ‘FC Patch’ by Tarmac with a self-explanatory name: ‘Storm remix’. It’s a tribute to our environment. The graphic work is made by Roberto Villoria, founder of Creático Comunicación, who could be considered as one of the originators of Adeptlabel.”
