Shavina : Libertine [Zimmer112]

“A libertine is one devoid of most moral restraints, which are seen as unnecessary or undesirable, especially one who ignores or even spurns accepted morals and forms of behaviour sanctified by the larger society. Libertines put value on physical pleasures, meaning those experienced through the senses. As a philosophy, libertinism gained new-found adherents in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, particularly in France and Great Britain. Notable among these were John Wilmot, 2nd Earl of Rochester, and the Marquis de Sade.

The word ‘Libertine’ was originally coined by John Calvin to negatively describe opponents of his policies in Geneva, Switzerland. This group, led by Ami Perrin, argued against Calvin’s ‘insistence that church discipline should be enforced uniformly against all members of Genevan society’. Perrin and his allies were elected to the town council in 1548, and ‘broadened their support base in Geneva by stirring up resentment among the older inhabitants against the increasing number of religious refugees who were fleeing France in even greater numbers’. By 1555, Calvinists were firmly in place on the Genevan town council, so the Libertines, led by Perrin, responded with an ‘attempted coup against the government and called for the massacre of the French. This was the last great political challenge Calvin had to face in Geneva”. Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand wrote that Joseph Bonaparte ‘sought only life’s pleasures and easy access to libertinism’ while on the throne of Naples” (Wikipedia).

4Sight : Dendritic [BB33]

“Che Ramirez aka 4Sight grew up in a very musical household. Born in Ireland, now living in Philadelphia via San Francisco, his grandfather, the Latin-American composer Emilio Ramirez Garcia, instilled a lifelong musical passion throughout the family, with jazz, salsa, rock and classical being practised and performed around him from an early age as well as access to a wide variety of instruments.

An eclectic taste developed naturally… ‘My daily digest of music when i was around 9 years old was Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Nine Inch Nails, DJ Shadow, Tool, Rachmaninoff, and Debussy among others’

His passion for jazz took him to study at the University of the Arts in PA, and the seed of 4Sight’s musical identity were sewn when he began to combine his jazz guitar playing with inspirations from the LA beat scene, and Brainfeeder’s output in particular.

‘Rather than trying to make something that would be true to a tradition like jazz, it was almost like I had the ability to mould my own unique sound and mood. I felt as though i was channelling an ultra-creative part of my mind that I had never tapped into before. This creative pocket is what is fanned out over 7 tracks that make up the EP. It ‘s an embodiment of me branching out musically and artistically and taking what I know in different directions, hence the name Dendritic: Having a branched out form resembling a tree'”

tdel : Ascend and Return [DTH009]

tdel is the abbreviated alias of Tom deLaubenfels, a resident of Atlanta, Georgia. A lifelong enthusiast of electronic sounds and music, Tom has been experimenting with production for a number of years while continuing to explore his love of deep and hypnotic genres such as techno, ambient, and kosmische. In 2013, these affections brought him to the legendary Labyrinth festival in Japan, and as was true for many like-minded artists before him, the experience was profoundly inspiring. (This is also where he met Hal Floyd of DTH and came to know the label). Tom began to channel these inspirations into his music upon returning home, and, together with the influential sounds of a particular synthesizer, the ideas began to coalesce. The results can be heard on the Ascend and Return EP. Tom has also been mixing techno and house records for more than 10 years and is known for his carefully considered selection and mixing. ”

Dark Frequencer : Edge Of Solitude [Petroglyph264]

Dark Frequencer is one man underground project from Poland. His music is inspired by sci-fi and horror films from the 70’s. He deftly moves between various types of electronic music, wherever dark ambient rules. He used dark drones and angel’s ethereal voices and all of that in order to create a mysterious, dark and nostalgic atmosphere. He describes his tracks as ‘deep down fairy tales’.”

The Impossebulls : Everything Has Changed; Nothing Is Different [BSOG0041]

“Back in the early noughts, Public Enemy’s Chuck D formed the world’s first virtual rap squad called The Impossebulls from a group of talented fans who frequented PE’s online forum, the Enemy Board. In 2004, the Bulls released their sophomore album, ‘Slave Education’, to retail via Chuck D’s SLAMjamz Records. In partnership with SLAMjamz, blocSonic recently re-released this under-appreciated album in our special Xtended Edition deluxe format with a second disc packed with bonus content. Since 2004, they’ve released various EPs, singles and compilations, but they have not released a full-length album of all new material since. That is, not until today!

blocSonic is very happy to be able to present to you, in conjunction with SLAMjamz, The Impossebulls’ incredible new album, Everything Has Changed; Nothing Is Different. From the beginning, they’ve been unapologetically sticking with that classic 90s hip-hop vibe… giving heads music that harkens back to an era that made the boom and the bap central. This new album is no different. However there is a difference. The difference lies in how well it captures the spirit of that era more so than any of their previous albums have. Listening to this album, it’s clear that these guys have grown up and have been making hip-hop for so long now that their skills have been honed to a polish.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that they’ve had help from an incredible array of talented artists on this album! Most noteworthy (simply because of the important part they played in the history of this little thing called hip-hop) are Chuck D, DMC (Run-DMC) & Son of Bazerk and No Self Control! That isn’t it though… there’s DJ Lord and Brother Mike Williams of Public Enemy. There’s blocSonic artists CM aka Creative and cheese. Last, but surely not least, there’s also Sekreto & Cabelleros Del Plan G, Villain151, Boooka, Belle McNulty (who you may remember hearing on netBloc Vol. 44: Break From The System That Gotcha), and Tah Phrum Duh Bush who all play such important roles in making this album so memorable!”
