“The SUb, an autonomous, non-profit club-project is based at the bottom of the ‘Schlossberg’ (Castle hill) in Graz. We see ourselves as a collective, which makes all of the decisions in consent at a weekly plenum. Every person in this collective only works unpaid labour. We do not receive any means of conveyance and finance the entire project exclusively from donations.
Our low-threshold and diverse events range from concerts and parties to book-presentations, workshops or discussions. In the nearly 2 decades of events in this location, around one thousand artists from around the world have played on the (non-existent) stage of Sub.
But as you have probably already noticed too, the building has become a little run down after nearly 17 years of being used as a non-profit club-house. In this time the official constraints have also become more restrictive and the controls through officials have increased. Now we have to renovate, to continue this project.
And for this we need your help!
We want Sub to be able to keep up the work of offering diverse artists from around the globe a special stage and enabling people to consume a low-threshold culture programme. Even more, SUb should continue to be an important place where we can hold against the ongoing increase of authoritarianism, short-sightedness and the loss of empathy in the current political climate in Austria. Let’s show together, that a solidarity society is possible!
