Brickman : The Dark [CTR025]

Brickman (Elizar Pirogov) from Saint-Petersburg, Russia, presents his new Album on Cold Tear Records. The tracks are really chilled but created with flair and do open a wide space of sound architecture with their details of adaptation. The Dark includes three remixes by Alexander Saykov, Giriu Dvasios and Fingers in The Noise.

Drugstore : Gaia EP [CICUTA 008]

“Welcome to the eighth release of Cicuta Netlabel. For an artist, all his works are something unique, something special. If you ask him about his favorite, he probably tell us it’s difficult to highlight only one. But always there are some works which, for one reason, are in a special place in his mind, and are usually reserved for a special occasion.

On one hand we have 2 tracks (Gaia and Kundalini) designed for the dance floor, closer to offbeat, with vocals and unconventional samples. Moreover, we have a more experimental track (Circon), closer to the netaudio world, in which this kind of works are usually well received.

About remixers, we have to Oliver Kucera, Czech producer based in Holland, one of the birthplaces of techno, with a track with a lot of strength. Oliver is one of the most promising artists in the European techno scene, as well as demonstrates their great collaborations with artists like Mattias Fridell, Space DJz or Carlos Rios. Recently, he has started his own label, Kucera Records, with a very good acceptance in the first release.

Another artist who is with us is CBTØ, Spanish artist from Seville, currently residing in Berlin, and one of our favorites in recent times. Jorge is a different artist, making music not usually oriented to the mainstream, but puts the soul into every track, and that is something that hooks you from the first listen.

Finally, we present a new Spanish talent, David Meiser, who has made an impact since his first track, being played by the great Dave Clarke in his radioshow. It has a style closer to old hard-techno from Eastern Europe, which is much appreciated in these times…”

Bobby Marleni : Fresh Jive [MNF010]

“Monophonic presents the first release of M.A.L.A under his alias Bobby Marleni. This fictional character pleases with his taste for infectious grooves marinated in classic house. He produced four tracks that go in different directions towards the dance music. Sounds enriched with samples, sequencers and some other acoustic instruments are pointing to a bright vintage sound.”

Tomzn : Tibet EP [schm008]

Tomzn is a young upcoming German producer, who´s breaking the edges between the electronic
genres without looking back at usual standards. Grewing up in the far east of saxonia, germany,
he became infected with the passion for electronic dance music. Next to tentativ steps in djing
with the age of 17, he started to produce his first simple loop-tracks without loosing the joy of djing
with the black gold. Tomzn constantly increased his production-skills with permanent looking for new sounds and rhythms without devoting to one kind of style.”

Barren Waste : The Dead [self released]

Barren Waste came together in late January of 2011 in response to an unimaginative local metal scene. All four members wanted to make something exciting and have so far done just that. Genre conventions were dropped. Instead the songs dictated where the songs would go. Not only are the usual elements of Death, Black, Thrash, Grindcore, and Hardcore used, but they are coupled with noise, classic rock, and free jazz influences. This chaotic, free-form sound paired with their intense live show make Barren Waste worth checking out” (ReverbNation).

Idealist : Defective Units [brq81]

“Being an idealist is noble and deserves endorsement. That is exactly the belief of our Zurich-based artist Bernhard Gietz (better known as ‘Berni’), who releases wonderful tracks in between dub techno and house under this moniker (Idealist) since a few years on labels such as Deep In Dub or Dreiton. His latest release on Broque, the Defective Units EP, is dedicated to the little flaws, imperfections and surprises one has to face when working with analogue devices such as the ones from the Roland TB family. What leads us to another one of Berni’s big and longstanding passions: Acid. However, Berni’s tracks are far from culminating into wild 303-infernos, but embed acid lines in a very elegant manner into floating dub techno grooves. While some tracks lean more towards their Basic Channel roots, others embrace warm Detroit techno soul, but they always manage to nonchalantly close the gap between contemporary club standards and the retrospective view into dub techno history. In between these explorations, Idealist also sneaked in ‘Bad Times’, a true hymn made of deep after hour nu-disco sounds together with heartwarming and shyly filtered hooklines, which provides the perfect soundtrack for welcoming the sunrise after a good night out. Who would have thought that the courage to embracing imperfectionism could lead to such a perfect release?”
