Various : Naviar Haiku Fest – Live at the Old Church [NRLIVE001]

“This year Naviar Records held the first edition of Naviar Haiku Fest, a day of workshops and live performances in London: www.naviarrecords.com/naviar-haiku-fest

Divided into two acts, the first part of Live at the Old Church includes the evening live performances of Audio Obscura, Ikjoyce and Sōzuproject.

Artists from all around the world made music in response to haiku written during the morning workshop. The tracks included in the album’s second half were made by members of Naviar’s online community in 6 hours or less, and performed as dj set before the live performances.”

“His music is difficult to describe as something static and recognizable. In his works Mark combines several qualities.

Building a well-structured blend of ambient and dub techno sound, Mark resorted to field notes, recordings of ambient sounds, which makes his music even more interesting, and brings the listener as close as possible to the places and emotions (maybe even events) experienced by the author when writing this music.

It is hard for us to find the right words that could express all the pain and worries about Mark’s death, so we asked his darling wife Julia to write a story for this last EP. Here it is.”

“On this release, probably the best of all our remixes: ‘Mania de Você’ by Rita Lee, nicknamed ‘Água na Boca’ (Mouthwatered), a work upon de subtleties of the original track to blossom its Disco rhythm. ‘For The Sake Of Love’ by Claudja Barry, aka ‘Luv Luv Luv’, made us break a sweat to achieve a 7min slow burner from a 3min original track. Track 3, the cover of ‘Lose Yourself to Dance’ from Daft Punk made by Madblush, accompanied by our favorite Rhodes timbres. Last but not least, ‘Legacy’ by Cairo Braga, the track that has been getting new meaning since the decision to dissolve the J4ck Sh4rk duo, an appropriation of its text in the process of ending a relationship, the belief in forever, the prayer for it was not all in vain, where each one of us leaves all we know, all we like and we hope you like it too.”
