4Sight : Dendritic [BB33]

“Che Ramirez aka 4Sight grew up in a very musical household. Born in Ireland, now living in Philadelphia via San Francisco, his grandfather, the Latin-American composer Emilio Ramirez Garcia, instilled a lifelong musical passion throughout the family, with jazz, salsa, rock and classical being practised and performed around him from an early age as well as access to a wide variety of instruments.

An eclectic taste developed naturally… ‘My daily digest of music when i was around 9 years old was Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Nine Inch Nails, DJ Shadow, Tool, Rachmaninoff, and Debussy among others’

His passion for jazz took him to study at the University of the Arts in PA, and the seed of 4Sight’s musical identity were sewn when he began to combine his jazz guitar playing with inspirations from the LA beat scene, and Brainfeeder’s output in particular.

‘Rather than trying to make something that would be true to a tradition like jazz, it was almost like I had the ability to mould my own unique sound and mood. I felt as though i was channelling an ultra-creative part of my mind that I had never tapped into before. This creative pocket is what is fanned out over 7 tracks that make up the EP. It ‘s an embodiment of me branching out musically and artistically and taking what I know in different directions, hence the name Dendritic: Having a branched out form resembling a tree'”

Hudson Glover : Animixes Vol. 1 [Sounds for Spawning]

“This album was inspired by live electronic improvisation. Several themes repeat including odd time signatures, modal chord progressions, non-periodic rhythm, consonant microtonal harmonies, elctro-acoustic fusion, and of course, vocal samples from animes which help give each song a narrative and add nuanced melodic intonation.

The majority of the tracks have a percussive feel to them in the light of early techno/classical minimal music and harmonies were inspired by late romantic composers. Loose graphical scores were presented for each song making each one its own little experiment.”

tdel : Ascend and Return [DTH009]

tdel is the abbreviated alias of Tom deLaubenfels, a resident of Atlanta, Georgia. A lifelong enthusiast of electronic sounds and music, Tom has been experimenting with production for a number of years while continuing to explore his love of deep and hypnotic genres such as techno, ambient, and kosmische. In 2013, these affections brought him to the legendary Labyrinth festival in Japan, and as was true for many like-minded artists before him, the experience was profoundly inspiring. (This is also where he met Hal Floyd of DTH and came to know the label). Tom began to channel these inspirations into his music upon returning home, and, together with the influential sounds of a particular synthesizer, the ideas began to coalesce. The results can be heard on the Ascend and Return EP. Tom has also been mixing techno and house records for more than 10 years and is known for his carefully considered selection and mixing. ”

Tigerberry : Spirit Kit [SCL143]

“The first band’s full-length album was compiled from the original songs captured between 2009 and 2012. It depicts the development of their distinctive sound and the starting point. The title Spirit Kit shows the idea behind the recording: each song itself is a key to a particular spiritual mood. The soundscape was designed in a very spontaneous and natural way. Nobody planned to release this record, and yet it became the organic 8 track statement that had been gathered from a vast band’s catalogue of singles, outtakes and demos. Serious changes and re-recordings were excluded on purpose to deliver the purest feel and tension behind the music. Remastered by the wizard from Binomial Records. The beauty of layering and reserved power reveals itself in an unexpected way through repeated listening.”
