Patrick Zigon : Hobson‘s Choice EP [BIOS_006]
“The Biotop Label celebrates the spring awakening with the first solo EP of Patrick Zigon.
After the release of his album The Alpha State and numerous eps & remixes on labels such as Highgrade, Cocoon, Kompakt etc., the Biotop Label-head took a small re-creative release-break. Completely focused on the buildup of the Biotop Label profile, Patrick only released collaboration-EPs with Gabriel Creole & Till Krüger and a few remixes on his own label, with exception of ‘The End My Friend’ which was released in January on the Etui Records Wintercamp Compilation and gained big support from the ‘Godfather of Techno’ Juan Atkins.
Finally he‘s back with the Hobson‘s Choice EP. While the last Biotop-Releases were more experimental, Patrick‘s new EP is what you can call a proper Dance-Floor 3-Tracker.
‘Swaption’ is a typical Zigon track. Moody pads and Detroit style synths spread the mysterious vibes. Glitchy vocal-snippets and twisted rides completing the spooky and techy attitude of this track. It sounds like Patrick dreamed a lot about the upcoming summer-season while he produced ‘Vita‘s Wood’. It developes with shakin’ percussions, dubby chords and deep filtered pads, until the break unveils the classy house- organ…and the crowd begins to smile! ‘Nooning’ is an extensive hypnotizing sound-journey, filled with a huge sub-bassline, broken bassdrums and melancholic synth-layers.”

“Devecly Bitte delivers a pure dub techno ep, his first for Sublime Porte. Subtly mixing ambient, experimental and roots dub influences he crafts a quiet journey through dub land with expertly constructed tracks.
Deep, driving rhythms and soothing aerial textures at play here. Beautiful melodies sometimes emerge from the grain, and the dynamic yet static nature of the tracks keep things in a nice and quiet fashion all the way.
The ep comes to a close with a remix from French dub techno alumnus Fingers in the Noise, who transforms the original into a warm excursion into a sunbathed field. A welcome departure from the frosty winter days.”

KrAtOS : Seventh [DAST073_LP]
“KrAtOS (real name Diego Strazzullo) was born in Naples, Italy, in 1978. He starts early to play classic piano and soon was hypnotized by the industrial experimental UK scene (Throbbing Gristle, Coil, Psychik TV) discovered by tape cassettes of his uncle. At the end of 90s he was captured by DUB (Bill Laswell, Adrian Sherwood, Almamegretta, Scorn) and he started to process sounds with the intention to melt a lot of different influences. With music he found big friendships in Naples (BLACKYB., FONOTECA, 73, SODOSTUDIO) but in 2009 he left Naples to Greece for work. The joy of music-making still alive, thanks to social networks, he collaborate with others producers and artists (Inference, Marianne Holland, Bissecta, Radical Elsewhere, Natalie Alva) customizing a proper style: a dark experimental DUB. In 2012, he collect 18 tracks with the same noir spirit into a LP called Seventh, a cinematografic hommage to Bergman piece ‘The seventh seal’. Currently, KrAtOS collaborates in project XSYNAPSIS with BLACKY B. and in UK experimental band Radical Elsewhere.”

Krautfass 3000 : Little Voice EP [BIOS_005]
“The Biotop Label kicks of 2013 with the most experimental release so far.
‘Krautfass 3000 combines different fragments of musical history and genres to create an explosive flow of psycho-sensory quodlibets that exist somewhere between chaos and order.’
Krautfass 3000 is an innovative band-project combining music & art performances. Their music develops always intuitive, there‘s never a plan what they will play, it‘s a surprise for everybody – most of all for themselves. As Studio-neighbours of Biotop Label-Head Patrick Zigon they are quite a big influence in Patrick‘s music and way of working generally. He already collaborated with a few Krautfass 3000-musicians for his album The Alpha State. So it‘s about time to release their debut-ep on Biotop.
Little Voice was recorded live at the ‘Kunstnacht Konstanz 2012’ in Southern Germany, when Krautfass 3000 played their concert under the ‘Rhein-Bridge’, as highlight of the event. Additionally german visual-artist Roxana Purmandi made an amazing video for this 12-minutes-journey.
Biotop-resident Paulo Olarte and Flix reworked the experimental original-files into their very own deep, dubby and soulful versions.”

“Both these guys have been very busy this year releasing a few ep’s and albums between them. 2 very exciting artist with a wide range of styles to express. I was very excited and honoured for them to be able to squeeze in a release on Drift Deeper before the year ends.
Nebyla takes us back to basics with a stripped-down funky deep house track. A wonderful melody, beat and vocal hook come together beautifully to create ‘Mountain Yard’.
Pobedia goes deep on us once again with a mesmerizing, deep ambient-drone filled techno track. I really get the feeling of being up at ‘6am’ making my way to work, walking through the city watching as the first beams of sunlight penetrate through the cold concrete structures. Adding a warm glow to the city as it starts to come alive with people going about their day and traffic running through the veins of the city.”

His basic_sounds release Delayed Childhood opens with ‘Index of Clouds’ a drifting dub track with warm soothing waves layered with clean clicks and crackles for a deep tranquil organic dub journey. ‘The Mote Hunted Down In Telegraph Hill, San Francisco’ is a beautiful eighteen-minute gentle ambient soundscape with perfected looping washes and delicate sparse percussion drones for a really lovely calming peaceful meditation. Overall a sublime and gorgeous release.”
