“SP14 marks Stiver‘s first release on Istanbul’s Sublime Porte after well received previous releases on Square Harmony alongside fellow Istanbul artist and collaborator Gantz. Encapsulating a heady mix of low slung bass, ominous vibes and fractured beats, Stiver is an artist fast rising to the heights allowed to him by his stark, powerful production skills.

Flickering open a portal into his world effortlessly with the sombre swells of Disappointment, the young artists vision instantly comes across as a consistent and powerful expression of emotions fused with forward thinking ideas. The scuttling textures and almost invisible yet ever present vocal samples of Even If effortlessly make way to the circular geometries of It’s similar they say.. with rhythms that morph and merge with one and other, taking the listener on a sonic adventure before landing fittingly on the glorious Shine, a beautiful stellar beacon of a tune that glows and shimmers much like the lights reflected on the Bosphorus. An essential release by Stiver, exploring both familiar and unfamiliar territories with a sharp eye for detail and a deep knowledge of the relation between sound and emotion.

“German producer Erich Schall delivers Direction, a follow up to his exceptional 2011 debut album Tröte on Cologne based netlabel, Der Kleine Grüne Würfel. Direction opens with ‘Outside’, a floating dub groove mixed deep with echoes and light shuffling percussion while subtle hints of a ‘big band’ orchestra haunt the piece throughout. The second composition, ‘Inside’, appropriates Schall’s dub forms into driving techno relying again on echoing tonal melodies and organic percussive clicks to move the work. The closing number, ‘Above’, is a wet and dubby journey incorporating eerie spatial sounds and distorted field recordings.

Schall, who also creates music under the pseudonym Alberto Buitony, began his first efforts in electronic music on a keyboard he purchased in a thrift shop. Teaching himself to use the machine – without the benefit of an instruction manual – has shaped the ways in which Schall continues to explore and experiment in making his own music.”

“Patrick Zigon likes to collaborate with creative guys, which he has proven again and again on previous EPs and his 2011 album ‘The Alpha State’. This time he has teamed up with the talented Till Krüger from Southern Germany for the second Biotop release. Till has gained a lot of attention with his timeless hi-class productions for Treibstoff, 200 Records and Bullet Dodge as well as remixes for Gabriel Ananada, Alle Farben & Patrick Zigon.

Till and Patrick had some inspiring days at the Traumraum Studio at Lake Constance. They combined their skills and produced a deep techy 3-tracker – melodic and emotional but with a huge dose of dub. Hypnotic pads and chords create dreamy sequences, while the bottom-end is filled up with pushing sub-basslines and warm kick-drums.

Each track stands by itself, but together they also provide a continuous atmosphere, the typical Biotop-mood.”
