Lyndon Scarfe : Drifting [BSMX0069]

“British musician Lyndon Scarfe has been involved in music production since the early 1980’s. Originally keyboards player in the post-punk band the Danse Society he has since made dance music under the name UltraGlider, ambient and drone under his own name, done a number of remixes (including some for blocSonic), released a collaboration album with Liam Stewart (also on blocSonic) and is currently the guitarist with the Black Lamps.

Next week, Lyndon releases his brand new solo album, Music For A Lost Film, right here at blocSonic! Today, we’ve got the first excellent single from that album.

A very special thank you to Lyndon Scarfe for making blocSonic the home for his great new solo music!”

Specta Ciera : Scarlet Hill [bsc_041]

“American experimental sound artist Specta Ciera (aka Devin Underwood) has released several albums on Distance Recordings, Project 168, Secret Station, Circles and Lines Recordings, Luxus-Arctica Records, Earth Mantra Netlabel and Audio Gourmet. For basic_sounds, Underwood delivers Scarlet Hill, an impeccable dub techno release full of subtle grooving organic beauty.

Opening track, ‘Day 1’ combines field recordings of rain, textured rhythm structures and warm dubby percussion layers. ‘Day 2’ is a soft organic track with trickling percussion sounds, distance echoes, warm cymbals and sophisticated rhythm arrangements. ‘Day 3’ is a rolling dub techno track with pulsing baselines that propel the listener forward. Brilliant, polished, head-bopping bedroom track. ‘Day 4’ is a deep floating dub techno work with light airy chords, combined with a chunky swagger, and swirling ambient details. ‘Day 5’ is a haunting dub ambient track that takes it down a notch and incorporates reverberating vocals for the first time. ‘Day 6’ is a mature grooving dub techno number with melodic organic nuances and shuffles. ‘Day 7’ closes the release on a high with yet another uplifting dub composition incorporating harmonious bells and throbbing pulses. Both minimal and expansive, Scarlet Hill allows its tracks to float across and into each other, as one infinite and sublime dub release.”

Koncrete Roots : Dub ina Midlands [DPH011]

“The year 2014 starts with some new dubophonic heights with Koncrete Roots, a one man project by Thomas Kenney from Leicestershire in the East Midlands of England.

From an early age Thomas would listen to a huge amount of music though he would always favour the sounds of Ska and Reggae. Music was always in his blood and he began producing back in 2004 under a different name. The music he was making at the time was a reflection of the scene around him; hip hop and grime. It wasn’t until later in life when he was introduced to (and fell in love with) Dub music that he started to take his own music seriously and started to develop his own sound and style.

Koncrete Roots’ style can be described as a deeply rooted dub sound with a modern day steppa twist. This twist makes all the difference and gives an electro dubness to their traditional rootical sound introducing some great vibes to the massive, entering into the new year.

From the meditative ‘River Jordan’ to the rootical electro steppas like ‘Inity Step’ and ‘Sound Killah’, Koncrete Roots deliver their message of dubness and irieness into the year 2014. Not withstanding his versions of two old time classics, the UK producer seems like a sound warrior, armed with deep basslines and organic melodies like in ‘Universal dub’, marching to destroy Babylon on his way to Zion.”

Various Artists : Noesis [stasis019]

“Dear Friends and Listeners,

We are glowing with joy and radiant glory, as we celebrate one more year of Energostatic Records! These three years we were releasing music at a leisurely pace, helping young artists to get themselves heard and enlighten mental sparks of human cognition.

We explore the multi-dimensional manifold through musical impacts and we continue Noesis – purely intellectual apprehension of universal forms, the exercise of reason.

We are logic. We are dialectic.

We flow.

We send special thanks and warm greetings to all people that have contributed to the label or we have been working with along the way! Merry Christmas and happy New Year!”
