Bite : Diffuse [bsc_026]

“Spanish producer and videographer José Barrera releases his magnificent EP Diffuse on basic_sounds. Known for being an industrial engineer by trade, Barrera’s passion lies in creating dark ambient drones with deep immersive basslines. He originally started composing in 2004 after purchasing his first synthesizer and later became invested with the Monome community, contributing to several compilations organized by other Monome users. He also has appeared on Mischieveous Musique, Drift Deeper and supplied audio accompaniment to a contemporary dance performance. His self-released albums are available for download from his bandcamp page.

Diffuse opens with ‘Fire Oscillator’, a densely thick immersive work with contemplative floating strings, crackling gurgles and deep organic bass similar to an internal rhythmic heart pulse. ‘Double Exposure’, is a lush, drifting dub techno gem that gains more depth through its pulsing signals and airy layered chords. ‘Mirror Reflections’ is a dark eerie pulsing track with shuffling sweeps, alluding to feelings of uncertainty. ‘Oblivion’ closes the EP with a twelve-minute long format composition that delicately transforms and glides the listener through a meditative foreign space. Absolutely beautiful and ideal for lovers of Wolfgang Voights’ Gas moniker and all things deep.”

jmdkm : Mila [SLNT037]

“All tracks are being composed and arranged between 2009 and 2011, using everydaylife home- and fieldrecordings in combination with digital editing en FX in attempt to construct lyrical and soothing structures of sound. This collection came together after using these specific tracks in situations of relaxation or even meditation. In an effort to combine 3 years of focussing on soundscapes, jmdkm tried to assemble a sensitive release, although edgy in some parts, the main notion remains to poetical and somewhat soothing …”

Mon0 : Monolog [sp13]

“This release by mon0 is the artist’s fourth album, the first one on Sublime Porte, after an ep on Silent Season and several releases on Kreislauf and Test Tube. An expert in long tracks, mon0 here provides us with six beautiful journeys into sound all lasting around ten minutes.

The opener, the soothing Monolog, is a great moodsetter for what follows, and shows just how accurate the sensation of space is in this album : with calm rhythms and a simple pad flowing from highs to lows, an almost solid mass of sound encompassing deep Detroit slabs and white noise, seagulls on the coast and the sound of the wind across the sea, it dives deep and takes us on the ride.

Seaside is a fantastic drone cut, complete with electronic rain and steel drums being overtaken by demonic forces. It’s almost as if we hear an ancient sea god rattling on metal sheets and a thousand undead echo chambers chanting in unison a strange prayer in an unknown language. The fog then proceeds to slowly move away, and as we stray forward we uncover the shapes under a closer light.

As we wander inland, Autumn Clouds start to gather over our heads, a chilly wind sets in, passing through the trees and chiming in with the bells of a distant temple. Deep in the forest more rain starts pouring down… Guided by strange lights, we arrive near the village of a native civilization, and their drums start blending with the faraway sound of the bells.

Starting off slowly, Gray Skies is a more straightforward dub techno affair, but which manages to retain the same level of ambience as its predecessors. The track rests upon layers and layers of pads, with slow attack chords and very original percussions to boot, it takes its time to build a consistent atmosphere before entering into motion. Dialog continues on that note, with a noticeably darker atmosphere, and is definitely the more club-oriented of the bunch, but still has that keen sense of mood before functionnality, and it’s a true delight to hear.

Outro is the bleakest track yet : featuring a chilly drone as a center piece, and sounds akin to wind in winter, it evokes images of infinite lunar landscapes, grey and white mountains of dust slowly eroding, bursts of solar flares and the vast emptiness of space, with the blinding light of stars and planets pinned against the unfathomable black void of the universe. And you in the middle, wandering helplessly through infinity.”

Various Artists : Iron: Dragon’s Eye Sixth Anniversary [de6010]

“The release of Iron marks the sixth anniversary of Yann Novak relaunching Dragon’s Eye Recordings, the record label originally created by his father Paul Novak in 1989. In previous years, this anniversary compilation has been a chance to look forward to the coming year of artists and releases. With Iron, we will be looking backward at the previous 6 years.
For Iron, artists featured on Dragon’s Eye were asked to contribute either a solo piece or a collaboration with another Dragon’s Eye artist. The results came together as a massive free download compilation, consisting of 24 artists, on 20 tracks and over 2 1/2 hours of sound. The compilation came together as a perfect mix of the styles and voices featured on Dragon’s Eye over the last 6 years.”

Stellardrone : Echoes [stasis009]

Stellardrone is a moniker of a composer named Edgaras, born in 1987 and living in a capital of Lithuania. He has no formal musical education, just a passion for sound, which emerged quite late, in his 20’s. Edgaras is currently using only computer software, however doesn’t reject the idea of using live instruments in a future. He is mostly interested in light ambient, berlin school kind of electronic and general space music and tries to fully express his thoughts and feelings with a synthetic, electronic sound.”

OMUTT :: Sidan Av Ensamhet [Eg0_037]

Eg0cide Productions has recently been contacted by drone artist Omutt who submitted an album that he had previously self-released. We immediately found that this music really deserved more exposure, so we are glad to include Sidan Av Ensamhetand in our collection. We also hope to hear more from this projet soon…

A short presentation by the artist himself : ‘Omutt was founded in 2007, was published several times under different names (Altar Of Sorrow, Dime [Drone]) on Russian labels and net-labels. Sidan Av Ensamhetand was recorded in the period from January to April 2011. On this album I tried to do a variety of tracks of ambient/experimental/noise. This work is devoted to one girl who did the cover for this release and track titles offered in Swedish. I tried to express some mood of late winter, different moods. I used field-recordings, a bit of radionoise, bells, and more.'”
