B. Toriyama : Episodes [bsc_063]

“Sendai, Japan based dub producer B. Toriyama delivers Episodes, a four track EP that develops slowly delivering a loose, deep dub sound. Living in the northwest, B. Toriyama is deeply influenced by the beauty of his natural surroundings. Sendai is known for being named ‘The City of Trees’, and the symbolic Hirose River runs directly through the city. B.Toriyama is also known for his releases on Run On Recordings, Edaphon Netlabel, poleporerecords and many others.

Episodes opens with ‘To The North’, a beautifully rhythmic atmospheric dub track with dense warm uplifting shuffling textures. ‘Sultry Dub’ rhythms are lush with expansive, synth-washes and honed padded arrangements designed to lull listeners into his calming, swaggering groove. ‘Cloud’ is a deep immersive dub techno track combined with warm tones and beautiful light washes. ‘Sauce’ closes this gorgeous EP, with another sublime submission of programmed feather-light beats suspended in blissful ambience.”

Miroslav Wilde : Ocean EP [KPL033]

Miroslav Wilde was born in Ukraine in 1994, but soon migrated to the city of Saint – Petersburg Russia. His musical tastes evolved over his career out of the trance and techno to bass lines and dark sounds of dub and deep techno.

The release Ocean is a heartful dub-techno work (soundtrack). While creating this music, I was greatly influenced by my trips to the sea. I wish you were immersed into the atmosphere of travelling alongside the endless ocean. Just enjoy it!”

Subset : Skywater [DEPCD012]

“I started writing this collection of tracks inspired by sounds of the deep and wanting to explore the more minimal side of the genre, it’s something I’m slowly working towards.

Throughout the album in amongst the clicks, crackles and hiss are the sounds of a scuba diver breathing through their regulator, it’s one of the first sounds heard on the release. It was this sound I wanted to use to try and gel the tracks together, with the seven tracks ranging from those that are more dub-inspired, others more introspective and minimal, and others almost dancefloor friendly.”

Coppice Halifax : Antauen [BC46]

“Sometimes, music makes itself, or at least it seems to. Antauen began with inspiration striking Argentinian producer Matias Bagato (aka Orson Throb, and one of the minds behind Temiong Recordings) to remix the Coppice Halifax track ‘Antu’ from Radians (RP4). This mix was simply too good to let it fall by the wayside, so within a week of hearing it, we drafted the help of French producer Zwei Kreise (previously known as Axs) to fill out what would be a spontaneous single. Coppice Halifax went back to the source sounds for ‘Antu’ as well, bringing into existence ANTAUEN, a heavy new track that slices through the original audio with a white-hot laser, ready to storm the decks. Once the leading single and the supporting mixes were laid out, tangents began to manifest, and both Zwei Kreise and Coppice Halifax went even deeper into ‘Antu’ to excavate three more mixes: ZK’s being a low-res nod to vintage game soundtracking, and CH’s being a 40-minute drone-techno monolith with a washed out reprise. These experimental extras are only available as bonus tracks on the CD-R version of Antauen, which fully adds up to 71 minutes of new sound for your ears to process. Grab BC46 and thaw yourself out in deep space today.”

Overcast Sound : Commute Vol. 2 [bsc_062]

“German based dub techno producer Michael Pettit delivers yet another brilliant release, Commute Vol. 2 for basic_sounds. Known primarily for his masterful dub works as Overcast Sound, Michael also creates organic piano-driven house melodies as Mikaere. With numerous releases on Silent Season, Thoughtless Music, Rohs Records, Untitled & After, Falk Recordings and Entropy Records, in early 2015, Pettit also started his own niche label Sound And Object.

Commute Vol. 2 is a follow-up to Commute, according to Pettit, the ‘tracks are made to fit the somewhat repetitive daily commute’. The release entails two long format slowed-down dubby tracks that ultimately delivers a calming sauntering relaxed pace, perfect for reflective and meditative states. His organic warm contemplative soundscapes are bound to put your mind at ease.”
