DownBeat Dub : Electrorgánico [DPH021]

“Argentina strikes again! From the province of Mendoza comes DownBeat Dub, a four member live band with a twist! Emi Bless (Drum & SetLive), Jah Sound (Bass & Synth), Coco (Guitar) and Eter Dub (Keys & Brass) are mixing organic sounds with some heavyweight dubwise business. Electrorgánico is the name of their first digital release on Dubophoinic. Half organic and half electronic, Latin America is cultivating indeed some
serious dub vibes and is establishing itself in the world dub map!

Electrorgánico is also the name of their style, the result of their passion and commitment to explore dub music and introduce some new musical paths. The four musicians from Argentina are passionate and dedicated to the study and live performance of dub music. Their album is an amalgamation of many elements: analog meets digital, organic meets electronic, ethnic meets dub.

Starting with Coco’s guitar healing the nation, the journey continues with some funky dub sounds leading to an inside upliftment. Only to pause for some inspiration through the musically artistic interludes, admiring the view from the high mountains of Aconcagua, the journey continues in an everlasting musical creation. You are invited to join the journey and be a part of their world.”

Tzelalot : Labyrinth [DPH019]

Tzelalot is a movement of Word Sound and Power, having the explicit intent to communicate the mystical meditation about the Shadow of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, that is the meaning of this Ge’ez word.

In Ge’ez, the ancient churchical language of Ethiopia, Tzelalot means ‘Shadow’. Shadow is the ultimate shining blackness, generated by the presence of Light. As the Psalm 90 says, giving us freedom from carnal fear: ‘He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the Shadow of the Almighty’.

Tzelalot is an educational phenomenon expressing itself in several ways and sides, aimed to the complete ovastanding of the black mystery surrounding the King and dwelling in His Holy Inner. The crucial importance of this persuasion can be easily seen through an intelligent reading of the Gospel of Mark, chapter 4 verses 30-32: And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what comparison shall we compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that are in the earth: But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the Shadow of it.The secret of Jah depths, of Jah abyss, we desire. And shrouded by His Cloak we want to rest, knowing Qedamawi Hayle Selassie as the Omega Circle Fullfillment of the Whole I-niverse

Tzelalot has been founded by Matyas Tekle Selassie upon the solid Rock of the truly Ethiopian, Amharic speaking orthodox and Rastafarian tradition. Its crew is mainly composed by Bro. Kalad, Bro. Yosief and Etan-e Negus, but many more good brethrens and sistrens coopereng with I&I, through I&I spirit of love and ovastanding. Inspiration comes from Livitycal Powers. Big respect Midnite Band for their crucial examples and inspiration.

The fifteen tracks of Labyrinth compile only a small image of the works of Tzelalot, putting the best vibes together and showcasing the bright spiritual aura that emerges out of every track. As extra bonus we included two brand new tracks of Tzelalot, ‘I’ and ‘Ras Amlak’. From the consciousness of the ‘Wheel’ (sung in Amharic and English) and the uplifting vibes of ‘Cali’ to the Nyabinghi influenced chanting on ‘Jah-I-full’, Tzelalot leads you to an esoteric journey of meditation away from the Babylonian labyrinth of today’s society.”

Sunjaman : Outta Here [DPH012]

Sunjaman is an upcoming producer from Athens, Greece. Being a musician & bass player himself, he has always been exploring the sound of the bass, trying to travel into new territories on his effort to establish his own sound. On the process of exploring the bass territory, he had joined many bands and created numerous side-projects, from punk to hiphop. Nevertheless, dub has always been his main goal.

Inspired by the originality of roots dub and influenced by the modern dub steppa scene, he began to produce and public his tracks online. He made his debut release in 2013 and continued with many collaborations and releases. This is the first time he collaborates with Dubophonic. The style of Sunjaman’s can’t be described by only one musical genre. It combines many elements of bass music, such as dubstep, jungle, steppa, roots, dubwise. This is eminent in this 7-track EP, consisting of three original tracks and four alternative cuts.

Nuff respect to Northical from the Greek band/soundsystem Kako Synapantima for vocalising ‘Heavyweight Sound’, as well as Manwel T from Dubkey Records for his version of ‘Outta Here’. Big shout out also to Jungle Raiders for a very energetic jungle cut of ‘Witness the day’. The cover art is credited to Katerina Arvaniti.”

Various Artists : Explorations in Dub [DPH010]

“The first compilation of dub-o-phonic is a musical journey to some unknown areas of dub music. Compiled by Dub Thomas, Explorations in Dub tries to find the hidden elements of dub music in musical genres, where under normal circumstances no dub is existent. This release might not comply with the ‘conventional’ dub reggae as we know it. Being the tenth release of the label, Dub Thomas selects tracks with a strong experimental musical vibe, staying truthful to the future sound of the label.

The compilation includes seventeen tracks from artists scattered in the various corners of the globe, from Cyprus to the French West Indies: Daidalos One (CY), SXtheMadArtist (CY), Ras Robin Dennis (CY), Dub-I (RUS), Dub Riots (GR), Green Glow (MEX), Hernibernie (BEL), Knoto (JP), Mr Mefistou (PR), Negro Pirana (MEX), Rakoon (FR), Red Barrio (ES), Roots Dubbing Project (BRA), The Dubbstyle (ARG), Twixymillia (FWI) and Dub Across Borders (DEN).

Included in this compilation is Dub-I’s ‘Rididub Master’ in a new extended version, serving not only as a musical flashback to our first release, but also as a starting point for the dubs to follow, while the jazz/ambient tracks of Hernibernie and SXtheMadArtist (the cover art designer of the release) are perhaps at the highest innovation point. Knoto manages to strip a famous reggae song down to its basic beat elements keeping the melody as a sweet buzz in your head. Daidalos One offers an atmospheric intermission, Ras Robbin Denis fuses an ethnic/ambient feel, Dub Across Borders blips and clicks, Negro Pirana dubs the blues, Mr Mefistou builds up slowly a dubbed step, Green Glow steps it up, Twixymillia rewinds it, while Dub Riots, Roots Dubbing Project, The Dubbstyle, Rakoon and Red Barrio transform irie melodies into experimental dubscapes.”
