SHiMOTET : Humans Were Living On This Land [CFM072]

SHiMOTET joins the ever growing roster with a release that could be described as light, airy and playful. A unique sound that sounds as much as Ambient Techno as it does Downtempo. Giving 4 tracks for his first release on the label, and hopefully not the last, we see the sound change from Ambient to Ambient Techno to Downtempo ending with a chopped up vocals infused playful and light Techno track.”

Subset : Skywater [DEPCD012]

“I started writing this collection of tracks inspired by sounds of the deep and wanting to explore the more minimal side of the genre, it’s something I’m slowly working towards.

Throughout the album in amongst the clicks, crackles and hiss are the sounds of a scuba diver breathing through their regulator, it’s one of the first sounds heard on the release. It was this sound I wanted to use to try and gel the tracks together, with the seven tracks ranging from those that are more dub-inspired, others more introspective and minimal, and others almost dancefloor friendly.”

Coppice Halifax : Antauen [BC46]

“Sometimes, music makes itself, or at least it seems to. Antauen began with inspiration striking Argentinian producer Matias Bagato (aka Orson Throb, and one of the minds behind Temiong Recordings) to remix the Coppice Halifax track ‘Antu’ from Radians (RP4). This mix was simply too good to let it fall by the wayside, so within a week of hearing it, we drafted the help of French producer Zwei Kreise (previously known as Axs) to fill out what would be a spontaneous single. Coppice Halifax went back to the source sounds for ‘Antu’ as well, bringing into existence ANTAUEN, a heavy new track that slices through the original audio with a white-hot laser, ready to storm the decks. Once the leading single and the supporting mixes were laid out, tangents began to manifest, and both Zwei Kreise and Coppice Halifax went even deeper into ‘Antu’ to excavate three more mixes: ZK’s being a low-res nod to vintage game soundtracking, and CH’s being a 40-minute drone-techno monolith with a washed out reprise. These experimental extras are only available as bonus tracks on the CD-R version of Antauen, which fully adds up to 71 minutes of new sound for your ears to process. Grab BC46 and thaw yourself out in deep space today.”

Alien Levi : Interferences vol.2 [DFRR012]

“The process that lead to this album started in February 2015. Following extensive practice on mixing and mastering, it felt like the time to move forward, entering a next phase of development. I figured it could be a good idea to get into midi technique, even though it would mean having to get used to music software that includes a midi sequencer. On a nice website called midi.dubroom.org, tons if midi files/riddims can be downloaded. I used these to learn how to operate the sequencer. The first tryouts were just terrible. It must have sounded like Kraftwerk with way too many bongs and and a bottle of Jägermeister. Trust me, I know how it feels…

So the time had come to collect some VST-Instruments, especially the ones that give more natural and professional sounds. First, I came across a nice drum-kit and bass data bank. That’s where the fun actually started, even though good guitar and brass VSTs appeared to be hard to find. After having solved this problem, only some sound effect tools were needed to complete the picture.

I’d like to give special thanks to Dubroom.org, as they offer some great compositions in their free midi archive. That’s been a real influence to keep going, it helped me smoothen the work-flow, and ultimately get better sound as well.Track by track, I became more satisfied with the results of my work. Now this development phase is done it’s time to move on and take another step. However, in the end I realized that some of the tunes were too groovy to just sit on a hard drive or end in the recycle bin. Hence this release. Enjoy!”
