Tehbis : Luckdaw EP [GRV004]

“Following releases from LA’s Depakote, Manchester’s Kuartz and the well-received Groovement // Volume One compilation featuring a plethora of beatmakers, LabelGroovement is extremely proud to present music from Tehbis as our fourth digital release.

London-based Tristan Williams, aka Tehbis, first came to wider attention with the inclusion of his track Higher on Kutmah’s 2012 Brownswood compilation, Worldwide Family Volume 2 – and Kutmah is a man of impeccable taste when it comes to beats. This led to Tehbis joining the big K on the much lauded Boiler Room twice: initially in April 2013 with Slugabed and Mo Kolours and again in June 2013 with fellow underground producers/DJs Esgar, Jo Def and Tim Parker. To top this off, in September FACT magazine named him as one of ten breaking producers to watch in 2014.

The Luckdaw EP (for in this day and age, 3 tracks doth indeed constitute an EP) sees Tehbis in full on stomper mode, with a little introspection thrown in for good measure. Opener Deww straight up slaps you in the face with a variety of sonic implements in its brief two minutes. With Saturday Cartoons Tehbis teams up with the don Kidkanevil to deliver a collaborative magic carpet ride smacker, while closer Bristol Way quickly builds up into a ridiculous riff that should mash up the club / living room with ease. All tracks are layered with Tehbis’ trademark offworld chords and carefully-unfettered drum snaps, with just a hint of sublime vocals to ground the sounds.”

Myniciush & Erimus : Artilugios [blpsq037]

“The Colombian downtempo duo returns to our catalog along with a new partner in sound, Erimus. The three of them have crafted an exquisite exercise in sonic storytelling, rich with texture and crackly ambience. Life moves in time stretched slow motion while these surreal extended pieces melt away your perceptions of reality.”

Alexander Saykov : Cold Front [SPO044]

“The Russian artist shares his innerside thoughts free for all of you out there. Deep organic warm ,thoughtful atmospheres. Absolutely unique. This is ambient dub techno at its finest. The first track gently starts and through the album somehow the energy level is raised steadily until the last track from John Ov3rblast with his outstanding outro.

The rework from Bjorn Rohde forms a snowy, crystalline texture that takes the forefront in the sonic space, while resonant melodies, stripped of their higher frequencies, chime repeatedly in the background.

Discknocked remix with a smooth baseline gradually fades in to fill out the space, as dub chords begin to enter around the stereo field with a subtle distorted crunchiness. Hi-hats hop on board to raise the energy level of the track.

If I Had A Hi fi remix it begins with resonating, questionably organic strings whimpering over each other, continually building. And then comes the familiar kick-and-bass percussion present throughout the album comes in, topped by another hi-hat. The track gradually transforms into a unknown soundscape, a mix of a thousand emotions all trapped up in a small container and being rapidly shaken, and then finally spilled out onto the floor .

John Ov3rblast remix is a warm organic , rocky breaky dub groove that slowly marches on with a sense of dignity, kept warm by a thick battle-chant baseline.
Some of the percussion appears to be built out of more organic, potentially field recording based samples. These fill out the track nicely, and give it sort of a ‘wet’ sound that readily calls to mind images of melting snow.

Alexander has produced a melancholic, multi lever, a journey that you can’t resist, prepare yourselves for the long morning rituals, the walk in the parks or even your dream lands.”

Am.Light : Forgotten Land [adpt013]

“Welcome back Mr. Light. It’s been a long time since his first release by Am.Light for Adeptlabel, but we think we are fully rewarded. Forgotten Land is following Up then Back released almost a year ago!

This lovingly sharp album features six tracks that extend its duration to a little more than 48 minutes so we’ve got plenty of music here to discuss. Starting the set is Mirrors which speaks to a ceaseless tone of darkness. With a heavy-weight beat and a bubble game inside the mixdown it will give clues to the listener about the path taken by Am.Light in the rest of the tracks. Liquid is a classic ambient dub song. Its sounds are dusty and textured as you could expect from this kind of track. Maybe it is a recess, the last break before the storm coming in Acid.

The air is becoming denser in your room. At full volume you will listen a lot of stuff beautifully placed in the stereo field: an angry frog going around your head, a remote thunderbolt and a suffocating bass pattern are only a few of the ingredients of the acid formula. So now you’re expecting some kind of truce between you and the artist, an agreement to rest a moment, a precious time to breathe again, but this is not his plan. He will injure you (sonically) with Dc and he will keep on doing it with Forgotten Land, the track that gives title to the album. At the end of the tracklist is Cold Days, an upbeat ambient track with flying hihats, a piece of wood hitting your eardrum… This piece is for a haunted dancehall.

We could define the work as ghostly. The Romanian artist has done an astonishing album. We’ve been speaking about his feelings towards his music and he said ‘I actually aint the kinda of guy to step in the front and say hey that’s me and my shit.. I rather prefer the music’ so here it is. Forgotten Land by Am.Light.”

Godasadog : Hoje [self released]

Godasadog, a duo from Sao Paulo – Brazil, has just released an album called Hoje (translates to ‘Today’). This 8 track electronic album can be described to be somewhere in between poetry, minimal and urban beats. The album, all in Brazilian Portuguese, also counts with the participation of some of Sao Paolo key players in the independent music scene such as ‘Matéria Prima’ (Zimun, Subsolo) and ‘Bruno Kayapy’ (Macaco Bong).”

We Are All Alone : Solace [SCL085]

Exfoliated Rust was just a warm-up, it’s time for a mini-album. The songs have become more noisy with dirty drum sounds. To highlight any track is very difficult. All in all, a good work.”
